Meeting held to promote poverty alleviation in networks
A meeting to further promote the poverty alleviation efforts in the field of networks was held in Dahua Yao autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Oct 29.
More than 140 government officials and representatives of relevant entities attended the meeting, including Jin Hualun, director of the Cyberspace Affairs Office of Guangxi.
It is reported that Guangxi's poverty alleviation work in the five fields of information services, rural e-commerce, remote education, telemedicine, and smart tourism have achieved remarkable results since the beginning of this year.
A total of 257,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables have been installed in the region since the start of the year, along with 25,000 4G base stations. All the administrative villages in the region have gained access to fiber optic networks and achieved 4G network coverage. The number of 4G mobile phone users has increased by 2.6 million.
To date, 54 counties in Guangxi have been designated as rural e-commerce comprehensive demonstrative counties. The number of agricultural products in the region that are sold online has reached 3,527, with total retail sales of 11.75 billion yuan ($1.67 billion).
The internet access rate of primary and secondary schools in the region has reached 99 percent, making it possible for children in remote and poor areas to enter the classrooms of famous teachers in famous schools.
A regional-level big data platform for the analysis of the results of poverty alleviation work and the registration of impoverished people will also be established in the near future, according to the meeting.
