Maonan culture themed cartoon airs on CCTV
An animated series that showcases the natural beauty of karst landscapes and the ethnic culture of Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county in Hechi started airing on China Central Television (CCTV) on Oct 23.
The 26-episode cartoon Ka Si Te Shen Qi Zhi Lyu (A Karst Magical Journey) was adapted from a fairy tale of the Maonan ethnic group. It takes place on the Ancient Tea Horse Road and is themed around protecting natural environment.
Production on the series began in 2014 and took more than two years to complete. In June 2018, it premiered on Thai Central Television, generating the television station's second highest audience ratings.
The cartoon is China's first animated series based on the karst world natural heritage. Its second season has been completed and will be aired next year.
