Efforts made to enhance Guangxi ethnic harmony

A forum focusing on the development of long-residing ethnic groups in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region was held on Dec 1 in Hechi. Participants included 191 experts and scholars from 42 universities and colleges and 26 research centers.

The event was sponsored by the Guangxi University for Nationalities, the Guangxi Federation of Social Sciences, and the Hechi government. It was themed around Guangxi's ethnic development and rural revitalization.

Discussions focused on how to promote Guangxi ethnic unity and progress, shake off poverty, urbanize and revitalize rural villages, preserve Guangxi ethnic cultures and build a civilized society. The development of an environmentally-friendly society in Guangxi was also mentioned.

Guangxi, located in southwestern China, is a traditional region made up of various ethnic groups. The forum is an attempt to strengthen the harmonious development of Zhuang, Han, Yao, Miao and other peoples.
