Fengshan county, located in the south of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, enjoys unique geographical advantages and a subtropical monsoon climate, which are beneficial for growing walnut trees and producing distinctive walnuts. The county, with a walnut planting history of several hundred years, now has more than 800 walnut trees over 100 years old.

Since 2000, the county government has taken the walnut sector as a key industry to alleviate poverty, investing 260 million yuan ($37.9 million) and developing 330,000 mu (22,000 hectares) of walnut planting areas. Fengshan has become the largest walnut planting base in Guangxi.

The county's annual harvest of walnuts can top 35,000 tons, with output value of 1 billion yuan.

Fengshan walnuts have won a string of honors, including "pollution-free agricultural product", "most popular product at the first China (Guangxi) Health Products Expo", and "Guangxi's recommended famous and special agricultural product."
