Maonan culture shines in New York

The Maonan Yinyun Art Troupe from Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, performed a flash mob in Times Square in New York on Nov 18.

After performing in Germany, Thailand and Vietnam, the Maonan Yinyun Art Troupe was invited to give a week-long performance in New York.

The flash mob marked the first time the troupe had performed in New York. Maonan ethnic girls and boys dressed in traditional costumes sang several original songs, attracting many fascinated spectators. Images of the troupe also appeared on huge billboard screens in Times Square.

The flash mob was meant to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-US diplomatic relations as well as the 60th anniversary of the founding of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
