A stunt man was recently seen skillfully scaling a blade-covered bamboo pole during a folk culture performance in Gaohe village in Jiuyu town, Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The stunt "Po Wang Shang Daoshan", literally meaning "ascending a mountain of blades", is an ancient sacrificial rite, originating in Gaohe village, where a barefoot performer takes on the challenge of climbing a 7-meter-tall pillar which has 24 sharp blades protruding from it. The custom was added to the intangible cultural heritage list of Guangxi in 2014, and is staged in the village every year. [Photo/Xinhua]
