Hechi promotes development of compulsory education
Hechi, in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, raised 2.77 billion yuan ($432 million) in 2017 to promote the balanced development of compulsory education.
Additionally, future gaps in funding will be solved through active financial investment, government financing of bonds, enterprise endowment and social support.
According to statistics provided by the education department, Hechi now has 2,532 compulsory schools including 709 ordinary primary schools, 1,497 teaching locations and 164 ordinary junior high schools, with 527,200 students and 29,000 teachers of compulsory education.
Projects that are working on improving the basic conditions of compulsory education in poor areas are progressing smoothly in Hechi, with an investment of over 2.8 billion yuan, which will solve the problem of crowded dormitories, oversized classes as well as inadequate infrastructure and equipment in compulsory schools.
At present, these projects have been integrated into 451 schools, creating certain standards that balanced development efforts will have to adhere to in the future.
In addition, 6,262 primary and secondary teachers have been recruited thus far, addressing the shortage of teachers in rural areas, especially in teaching centers from 2014 to 2017.
