The standard of living for low-income families is on the rise in Du'an Yao autonomous county, Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region thanks to a new "cattle for cattle" project, Xinhua reported on May 31.
In 2016, local government joined with livestock companies to improve the lives of impoverished citizens.
People living below the poverty line are given the chance to raise strong herds of beef cattle provided by livestock companies. When new calves are born, the livestock companies will buy their cattle back at a fair price and then loan more cattle out, creating a system which benefits all involved.
To date, the government-proposed "cattle or cattle" project has distributed 11,382 herds of cattle to 11,242 families, many of whom are already seeing improvements in their lives.
By the end of 2019, every family in the autonomous county will own at least one herd of beef cattle.
