Fengshan county, Hechi city has recently began implementing its selenium-rich rice project, according to a local media report on May 14.

The project will cover a total area of 3,000 mu (200 hectares), with farmers growing rice in the summer and oilseed rape in the winter and spring. It will implement strict regulations and advanced techniques to produce high-quality rice and bring high-end products to the market.

Fengshan county enjoys certain advantages when it comes to developing selenium-rich products. The content of selenium in its soil is as high as 23.93 percent. The county will promote the development of selenium-rich products as a means of lifting local residents out of poverty and increasing living standards.

Local government will strive to develop brand recognition in Fengshan, focusing on the county's unique character. The selenium-rich rice project is in line with the county's development strategy to improve the livelihood of farmers by developing high-quality, environmentally-friendly, and brand-name agricultural products.
