The Gulong River Scenic Zone
The Gulong River Scenic Zone |
Located in the middle section of the Linjiang River, the Gulong River rises from Gulong vllage, Xiangbei township, and flows southward to the Dragon Dune Isle, with a total length of 10 kilometers. In ancient times, it was called Siwu Stream.
In the back mountain of the Gulong village lies the Gulong Cave which has an entrance that is 7 meters wide and 5 meters high and a cluster of stalactites which bears a striking resemblance to a tall old banyan tree. There are quite a few chambers in the cave and a natural skylight. The whole cave is several thousand meters long and there are wonderful sights inside the cave.
Drifting down the river in a bamboo raft, you will see such scenic spots as the Huangguan Hill, the Yima Column, the Longnv Cave, the Yuanyang Cave and the Liumei Cave.
All year round, clear spring water slowly flows out of the Longnv Cave, which has a very big entrance, 15 meters high and 20 meters wide. When you maneuver a craft into the cave for just past 10 meters, tourists can see the mouth of the spring.
During the bitter winter, this spring is a source of warmth. Steam goes out the cave now and then. Local villagers come here to take baths. According to one folk story, a dragon lady dressed in white used to emerge from the cave, based on which there is a Caidiao opera Dragon Lady and Han Peng.
