Xian Haihua, vice director of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region’s Industry and Information Technology Department, said on the 12th that Guangxi is currently in a key development stage and is increasingly emerging as an industrial hub connecting China with ASEAN.
The 6th China Advanced Materials Industry Development Conference, hosted by the Chinese Materials Research Society, took place on the same day at Guilin International Convention and Exhibition Center.
In his speech, Xian said Guangxi has implemented two three-year industrial revitalization campaigns since 2021, which have promoted high-quality industrial growth. Between 2021 and 2024, the added value of designated-size industries increased by an average of 6.8 percent per year.
This year's Jan-Aug period saw a 7.6 percent increase compared to the previous year (ranking 9th in the nation). High-tech manufacturing grew by 27.2 percent, and corporate profits increased by 20.9 percent.
Guangxi has established industries worth 10 trillion yuan ($13.8 billion), including automotive and electronics. Its materials sector, which includes steel, non-ferrous metals, and petrochemicals, has surpassed one trillion yuan in output.
In 2024, non-ferrous metals amounted to 393.7 billion yuan, ranking third in refined copper and alumina. Steel reached 359.9 billion yuan, ranking second in stainless steel, while petrochemicals totaled 235.7 billion yuan.
With support from national policy, Guangxi is establishing high-end materials bases in Qinzhou and Fangchenggang, and aims to build an advanced manufacturing center for ASEAN.
