'Southern Spice Capital' in China awaits outside investment

The prefecture-level city of Yulin, situated in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region at the junction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, is an active commodity hub as the home to the country's largest spice trading market, where 80 percent of China's spices and more than two-thirds of the world's spices flow through.

Zhang Huqiang, mayor of Yulin, said known as the "Southern Spice Capital" and the "Southern Medicine Capital of China", Yulin is also well supported by favorable policies such as the China-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Industrial Cooperation Zone.

Speaking to a group of foreign diplomats at a promotional event in Yulin on Feb 13, he said with its industrial clusters in sectors such as equipment manufacturing, new materials, spices, medicinal health products, textiles and garments, Yulin also serves as an important logistics hub in the Western Land-Sea New Corridor, awaiting investment from the outside.

Zhang expressed his hope that the "2025 China and the World – Chinese Culture Tour for Diplomats in China" event held in Yulin could serve as an opportunity to deepen cooperation with other countries in the areas of economy, trade, industry and culture.

After arriving in Yulin on Feb 10, the diplomats visited enterprises such as Guangxi Sanhuan Group and Guangxi Southern Food and Health Factory on Feb 11, as well as Yulin Fuda International Spice Trading Center on Feb 12.

Ambassador Zhao Jinjun also delivered a speech at the promotional event, noting that Yulin is full of opportunities, inspiring more chances for cooperation between China and other countries.

Ambassador Arlindo do Rosario of Cape Verde, Ambassador Evan Chulu of Zambia, Ambassador Fazeel Najeeb of the Maldives, and other foreign diplomats stationed in China all expressed their gratitude for the warm and thoughtful reception, saying they look forward to deepening cooperation between their respective countries and Yulin in relevant fields.

Mayor Zhang Huqiang also stressed that as a city with a thousand-year-old history, Yulin is also known as a "City of Power in China," a "City of Ceramics in China," a "City of Woven Crafts in China" and the "World Capital of Pants".
