To increase the cultural exchanges between China and Myanmar, Soe Thet Naung, consul general of Myanmar in Nanning, recently presented a Buddha sculpture for Qixia Temple in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Three Burmese monks, including Ven Vayamananda and Zawtika, as well as Gao Xiong, president of the Center of International Cultural Exchange in Guangxi, attended the ritual ceremony.

A China-Myanmar friendship tree was also planted at Mingxin Temple in Lingchuan county of Guilin.

According to Gao, cultural exchanges between China and Myanmar are conducive to strengthening mutual learning between the two countries, further enhancing the understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.

The year 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Myanmar, and today's exchange activity is of great significance to commemorate the anniversary in advance, added Gao.

Soe Thet Naung noted that countries have national boundaries, but cultural exchanges and religious beliefs transcend national boundaries, expressing his hopes that this event can be included in the list of cultural exchange programs between the two countries' governments for 2020.

Although Buddhism in China and Myanmar is different due to its different history, culture, inheritance, and social background, their core connotation is for human welfare, said Ven Vayamananda.

China and Myanmar have conducted extensive cooperation and exchanges at all levels and in all fields, noted Ven Vayamananda. He expressed hope that more cultural exchanges and cooperation will be achieved between the two countries to promote closer people-to-people ties and mutual understanding.
