Ballads of Liu Sanjie
Liu Sanjie (The Third Sister of the Liu Family) is a legend of the Zhuang people. She was regarded as the top singer of antiphonal folk songs, which are a common musical style among ethnic groups in South China. Yizhou of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region is considered the most representative area of Liu Sanjie's ballads and is recognized as the hometown of Liu Sanjie.
Ballads of Liu Sanjie are rich in variety and have spread widely. They have had far-reaching influences throughout the country and the world, showcasing the charm of the living culture of the Chinese traditional folk art. The ballads have research value not only in cultural history, but also in ethnology, anthropology, sociology, and aesthetics.
On May 20, 2006, Ballads of Liu Sanjie was approved by the State Council and listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritages.
