Guangxi, Guangdong explore city cooperation and development

The Fourth Joint Meeting of the mayors of the Pearl River-Xijiang River Economic Belt urban community and the Xijiang River Economic Development Forum was held in Wuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Nov 2.

Representatives from 16 prefecture-level cities of Guangdong province and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, such as Guangzhou, Foshan, Maoming, Nanning, Liuzhou, Guilin, and Wuzhou, discussed and exchanged economic development strategies, as well as expanded cooperation platforms.

According to the Three-Year Action Plan for Guangdong-Guangxi Joint Accelerating the Pearl River-Xijiang River Economic Belt Construction to integrate to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (2019-2021) jointly issued by Guangdong and Guangxi in May, the two provinces and autonomous regions will promote the planning and implementation of the Pearl River-Xijiang River Economic Belt along with the construction of the Greater Bay Area to promote cooperation and the development of the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, as well as comprehensively enhancing economic development.

Quan Guishou, Party secretary of Wuzhou, said at the forum that Wuzhou has unique geographic advantages and many convenient conditions for promoting cooperation in the Pearl River-Xijiang River areas as it is a domestic transportation hub and is the closest to the Greater Bay Area in West China.

Ma Shu, deputy secretary general of the Guangzhou government, said that cities along the Pearl River-Xijiang River Economic Belt should coordinate the integrated construction of regional infrastructure, strengthen port cooperation to build a modern port collection and distribution system, as well as actively promote the cooperation of water transportation infrastructure along the Xijiang River.

The forum also proposed adhering to green development, further improving the ecological protection mechanism of the Xijiang River basin, as well as ensuring the coordinated development of economy and ecology.
